Even if you’re a relatively new member of the cannabis community, there’s a good chance you’ve heard something about the number 420 before. It is synonymous with all cannabis-related culture.
Some say the best time to smoke is at 4:20 AM before going back to bed or 4:20 PM when you’re ready to start winding down for the day. Most of all, though, 4/20 is an international holiday for those who love the cannabis plant.
What Is There to Do for 4/20 in Colorado in April 2021?
During a typical year, there would be many different things to do on April 20th in Colorado, especially in and around areas like Denver and Boulder. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, safety takes priority to the usual large-gatherings during cannabis celebrations.
There won’t be as many events and festivals this year as people are still focused on social distancing. The good news, though, is that there are still plenty of different ways you can celebrate the holiday without going out in public or partaking in any risky activities.
1 – Have a Remote Session With Friends Over Video
This holiday will be a little bit harder on social smokers, largely because you can’t form a big smoking circle and pass a joint, blunt, or pipe around with all of your friends. If you’re feeling particularly sad about that, consider trying to simulate the experience by using a video app like Zoom, Facebook Live, Facetime, or Google Hangouts to get the gang together virtually. You’ll still be able to swap stories without swapping spit. You can even consider coordinating beforehand so you can all smoke the same strain and discuss it like you normally would. The beauty in everyone getting different strains would be comparing experiences with each other and discovering new recommendations to try from your friends.
2 – Watch a Cannabis Documentary
For many cannabis enthusiasts, the idea of celebrating 4/20 a little bit more privately doesn’t seem like a big deal. If you normally prefer to kick back and enjoy your own thoughts anyway, watching a documentary might be a good fit for you. You can learn the ins and outs of today’s cannabis industry, the history of cannabis, and even speculate about the future of humanity’s relationship with the plant. Thanks to legalization efforts all over the world, and especially in places like Colorado, it’s easier than ever to find new information about cannabis as our knowledge is forever evolving.
3 – Plan Your Own Movie Marathon
If a documentary sounds a little bit too dry for you, maybe you’d prefer to keep things light with less educational movies. Watching movies is a great activity that also happens to pair exceptionally well with cannabis. You may even want to take the entire day off, turn off your phone, and immerse yourself completely in the movie magic. Don’t forget to surround yourself with plenty of your favorite snacks before you get too cozy on the couch.
From there, all you have to do is decide which types of movies you’d like to watch. Some people may want to rewatch a bunch of their favorite stoner comedies, which certainly seems appropriate for a 4/20 activity during COVID. There are endless stoner comedy options, such as Dazed and Confused or Pineapple Express. On the other hand, you may want to alternate between serious and funny movies to keep things fresh. If you’re having trouble deciding, just see what’s popular on your favorite streaming app. On 4/20, it’s more than likely that the popular movies will be what the other socially distancing stoners are watching.
4 – Listen to a Podcast
This is a good option for anyone who normally prefers to be a social smoker. Listening to a podcast can make you feel as if you’re part of an interesting conversation. You’re also likely to learn a lot, depending on the particular type of podcast you choose. If you want to stick with the theme, you can even find podcasts that are centered around cannabis.
5 – Go for a Walk
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it seems relatively easy for most people to agree that Colorado is amongst the most beautiful states. If you’re sick of being at home after feeling cooped up all winter, get outside and enjoy the sunshine. On average, 4/20 in Denver, Wheat Ridge, or Boulder is likely to be close to 70°F and sunny, which is just about perfect for relaxing outside. Go for a walk, or just sit on your porch and enjoy the fresh air. Some people like to make art outdoors on a nice day. Tie dye would be a great stoner activity to release some of that creativity that’s been trapped inside all winter long.
6 – Learn About Colorado’s Cannabis Laws
Colorado is home to one of the best cannabis communities in the world, thanks in large part to progressive laws. State legislators are actively looking into ways for people to smoke together in more public places and get cannabis delivered to their homes. Reading up on some of the latest developments might help get you excited for the future. Furthermore, there are a lot of laws that are great to know as a cannabis consumer, such as where you’re legally allowed to smoke or how much cannabis you’re allowed to have on your person. Researching these laws prior to a dispensary visit can help ensure that you have a safe and happy 4/20 experience in Colorado.
What Does the Day 4/20 Mean?
There are a lot of rumors about the origins of 420, but the most well-known significance of this number goes back to a group of high school students in California. The group of friends called themselves the Waldos, and they started using 420 as slang so they could talk about cannabis openly without parents or teachers realizing it. The Grateful Dead eventually became aware of this term and helped to make it famous for modern cannabis users.
What Is the Significance of 420 in Colorado?
4/20 is an international holiday now, but it seems to be celebrated on an incredibly large scale here in Colorado. It makes sense when you consider just how cannabis-friendly this state is all year long. You might hear about 420-friendly people, 420-friendly apartments, or even 420-friendly hotels.
Since Colorado has such a thriving cannabis community, it’s also home to the biggest 4/20 celebrations you’re ever likely to be a part of. While the festivities won’t be happening the same way they do most other years, the good news about this 4/20 is that you can still celebrate the holiday in high fashion by planning some activities from the list above. It’s also a good idea to make sure you’re stocked up on product ahead of time.
